Tamiya Models:
The U.S. Navy PBR31 Mk.II, commonly nicknamed the “Pibber” (Patrol Boat, River), was a small, fast, and maneuverable river patrol craft used during the Vietnam War. Developed in the mid-1960s, these boats were designed to navigate the shallow, narrow waterways of the Mekong Delta. Built primarily from fiberglass to reduce weight and radar signature, the Mk.II measured about 31 feet in length, powered by twin Detroit Diesel engines with water-jet propulsion for agile handling and speeds up to 28 knots.
Tamiya’s 1/35 Scale Kit #150 is a vintage unassembled plastic model that faithfully reproduces the PBR31 Mk.II in detail. This classic kit captures the distinctive hull shape, turret armament, and deck fittings, offering modelers the opportunity to recreate a historically accurate Vietnam-era riverine patrol boat. Highly regarded among collectors and hobbyists, the kit reflects both the historically significant role of the PBR in riverine warfare and the craftsmanship of Tamiya’s model designs from its original release period.
